I agree with you OB.  I just bought a pair of Leki's and I'm having a hard
time trading in my wooden pole for them.  The Leki's are lighter, more
efficient, adjustable, have multiple uses as tent poles, ect. All good
logical reasons for changing.  However, my beloved hiking pole was made for
me by my friend Midnight who hiked in 96. (She took an identical one all
the way to Katahdin with her.)   It has been with me on every major trip
since and many minor ones. Just looking at it makes me smile.  I think when
push comes to shove and I leave for my LT hike in 17 more days the Leki's
will stay in the corner and my trusty old stick will go up the mountain
with me.
