I have an Hydromedary (sp?) that is the production version of the
adapter. The materials are still the same, I think they just added
more threads. The reason they don't use the same materials is to avoid
a separate gasket to maintain the seal, the male threads are a soft
gasket material that is self sealing. If they used the hard plastic
for both, it would need a gasket, if they used the soft for both, it
wouldn't leak, but you would probably never get it open again either!
