I don't hike if the temp goes above 80.....that's when I
snorkel
in rivers and streams where none of us would even think of
drinking.
I spend about 100 to 200 hrs a year with my face submerged
and
I'm quit sure I down a pint or two of water a year.  I've
never been
sick. I once asked Frank Logue if he thought that means I
don't
have to filter water.  He laughed and said probably not, as
long as I hiked only along that river <g>.
