Two pieces of advice, of course HYOH and YMMV.
1-don't take as gospel truth everything you hear from an "AT ThruHiker" no
matter where you hear it.
2-anything that is flammable (inflammable -- Felix why do those two words
mean the same thing when one would think that "in" added to a word would be
like "non" which it's not; do you have a story about this phenomenon?) will
burn but may not produce a flame adequate for your needs -- ie, too much
soot, need too much fuel to get water to boil, gummy residue, etc. I was
told that those firestarter sticks also work, I think they're more
compressed than the logs.
That's why God created back yards and decks and patios -- to test equipment
before it's taken on the Trail.
Or something like that, Coosa
