I had a dreadful night of sleep. Skeeters buzzing around, yes I wore a
headnet, too hot to zip up the sleeping bag, and I paid $5 for the pleasure
of staying at the new Stratton Pond Shelter. I've lost all sense of reality.
The rash on my ankles looks like poison ivy, but doesn't itch, kinda looks
like impetigo, but isn't oozing and no yellow puss. It's probably an
allergic reaction to the dye or synthetics in the Montrail Vitesse boots and
some trail grit ground in for that extra punch. It doesn't hurt, just looks
nasty. It's the same shape as the ankle padding in my boots. Lesson
learned....bring 3 pairs of socks and always wear one pair of them if I use
the Montrail boots.
Awake at 5:45am. Ate my usual breakfast, bagel and PBJ, then out of there by
6:35am. Saw lots of moose tracks in the Lye Brook Wilderness. Nice view of
Manchester from Prospect Rock. Good breeze and NO BUGS. I called Larry on
the cell phone and made arrangements for him to pick me up. 7.7 miles. Home
in Wallingford by 10:30am.
