[at-l] Re: Coosa's hike
I just love it when parents decide that their child is physically incapable
of certain things. I took my 6 and 7 year nephews backpacking on the AT and
they did just fine, but I think it freaked their mother out (or made her
jealous) and I haven't been able to take them out again. You let them hike
at their own speed, try to give them as little weight in the pack as
possible, and break when they need it ( you will takes LOTS of breaks to look
at critters). When I was in one of my education classes at school, I
mentioned getting as many of the children in my class (when I teach) involved
in running as possible. One very overweight student informed me that her
child would NEVER be in my class. Isn't fresh air and exercise healthy?
