Re: [at-l] What's with the buzzards?

  Twilight asks
<<Do these buzzards usually flock like this? >>
Ayup, it's 'that time of year' for New England's Turkey Vultures. They group
up as they migrate north, and are very social birds. They eat the same stuff,
fly on the same thermals, and seek the same roosts, so it's natural to see
many together. Morning wing stretches and hop arounds are common behaviours.
Really neat birds, featherless heads to keep clean of parasites from
carrion, and huge wings to ride the wind. The red heads mean they were
mature, and prolly looking for love. It must've been neat to watch them
soaring so close overhead!
