I'm still working kinks out of my own tarp design ... the easiest solution
appears to be extending my hiking poles up to prevent sagging ... I do not
want to take any poles.

I do get insect bites ... but bug bites don't bother me much for some
reason. Third world attitude, maybe. But when I want to keep bugs away I
simply crawl into my sleeping bag and hang a large piece of thin, light
cotton (a kafeiyah from Jordan, or an ajarak from Sind, to be exact) so it
drapes over my face .... keeps the bugs away just fine.

I sleep in a hammock under my tarp.

A little burning insense, frankinsense, or sage also works well to disturb
and irritate flying noseeums.
