[at-l] Kennebec Ferry Service News

 Hi listers
I've exchanged some emails with Steve the Ferryman, the hiker who has run
the canoe service across the Kennebec River in Maine for so many years. He
was just presented with an award from the MATC for his many years of helping
AT hikers.
Here's the latest from the Ferryman:
The 2000 Schedule will be
May 26 thru June 29 10:00am to 12:00 Noon
June 30 thru Oct 1 10:00am to 2:00pm
Oct 2 thru Oct 16 10:00am to 12:00 Noon
Steve is opening a hiker store for short term resupply so hikers can stock
up to get to Stratton or Monson (both 35 miles away). The store's name will
be "Trailpost" and will open on June 14th (Flag Day) at Rivers and Trails
base camp. Steve wants everyone to know that *all* hikers are welcome.
You can contact Steve Longley at ferryman@mainewest.com
 His website is at http://www.riversandtrails.com
I asked him if the White Blaze is still on the floor of the canoe. He
assured me that the White Blaze on the floor of the canoe is repainted every
year!
If you swim the Kennebec you'll miss One Blaze. So not only might you drown,
but worse- you won't qualify for an Avery Award! :O)
