Very doable in the period you posted. Expect temps down to freezing each nite, easily to 20s, possibly lower (0*) with some regularity. Much mud. Easy  water. Boatload of whatchacallem trudyhikers (a stinky lot, if they missed the free showers at Fontanalis). Can't comment on NPS taking down fences at shelters — aside from the chainlink permanently hung across the front.

I would very much appreciate anybody's notions of the difficulties involved 
in walking the trail from one end of the Smokies to the other April 7 - 16th. 
 Has the park service taken down the fences at the shelters yet? Thank you.
