Re: [at-l] Motorola 2-Way Radios

1) I thought these looked pretty cool for a family thang on a distance hike, to keep in touch as to where's, when's and how's of rest stops, water sources, night spots, etc. when people (parents) get separated. No guess work is good guess work with parents handling chillun's in the backcountry.
2) Saw a father/teenage son using them (every 10 minutes, it seems) dayhiking at a get-together of backpackers back in February. Thought I was gonna retch. (Sounds some better than "puke," don't it? Or "upchuck" or, well, you get the idea.) I was not impressed.
3) Call me ambivalent on this'un. Maybe it'd be ok for me, but not for you. Yeah. Tha's the ticket.

I'm in the market to purchase a 2-Way Radio Communication system. Anyone have any first hand experience with the Motorola or Cherokee brands and if so which model, or perhaps could provide a better brand and model. Lightweight and dependability are two important considerations.
