There are some nice view from the Vandeventer Shelter area overlooking the 
Watauga Lake.

The section between Carvers Gap, TN143/NC 261 and US 19 Elk Park, NC. This is 
would take a hiker over Hump and Little Hump Mountain's. This is mostly on 
open ridge's (Balds)
