I don't understand how a flip flop avoids the hiker crunch. You start with
all the other North (or South) bounders then when the hike is half over and
60-70% of them have dropped out, you change direction to get away from the
crowd. Seems to me if you got that far and 60-70% didn't 1) half the hike
has already been in the crowd and 2) you've already escaped the crowd.
"Jumpstart" did it that way but not to escape the crowd. He was afraid he
wouldn't get to Katadhin in time to climb it if he continued North. The
"what constitutes a **REAL THRU-HIKE**" part isn't worth responding to.
