[at-l] Rockies Trip Report

Had a wonderful day hike/snowshoe trip on Bierstadt(sp?) Mtn today. This
was also my first "14er".. Woo Hoo!

Left Boulder at 6:15 AM this morning with YKK aka K^2 aka Kristen
Kupersmith and her fiance' Josh. Was on the trail by 8 AM. The day was
GORGEOUS. It the mid 60's down in Denver, so I am guessing it was in the
mid 20's or so up at 14K ft. Very windy, but looked like you could see
forever.

It is also nice to know that I am still in decent shape. :-)

Now, here is the funny thing for a person who did most of his hiking back
East.

The elevation gain was actually quite a bit less than say the climb up
Katahdin or some base to summit climbs in the Whites. The 3000' ft
elevation gain, and the gentle switchbacks mae Bierstadt Mtn. the "family
14er". Still gorgeous though.

Can't wait to do some more 14ers this summer!

I'll let Kristen explain a curious inciden that happened today. ;-)
