Hi, I am Phil and I am a newbie and have been enjoying lurking for a
while now.  I am planning to start through hiking the AT in March 2001.
The reason I am writing is to pass on an interesting tid bit. While
attending an MFSA (Methodist Federation for Social Action)  meeting at a
friends home, the host and hostess were passing around photos of our
host taken on the AT in Virginia. Along with him in the the photo was
his son and grandson, his brother and his brother's son.  His nephew's
name is Richard Gere.  They said that they only passed about two people
on thier hike.  Though I guess there was some autograph signing at a
restaurant. I just thought you would all be interested in the fact that
Richard Gere was among the many that have hiked a portion of the AT.
