[at-l] Re: Carrots and Sticks of Throughhiking

Nothing personal here but OK ALREADY I GIVE UP

Well OK, not quite.

Regarding "Carrots and Sticks of Throughhiking," this is one
of the most commonly screwed up proverbs on the planet. The
carrot and the stick story is that of a little boy who wants
to get his donkey to go to the market. The donkey does not
want to go, so the boy ties a carrot to a stick and dangles
it out in front of the donkey as motivation.

There is no negative motivation in the "Carrot and the stick,"
as in "eat the carrot or be beaten with the stick."
