Another change - in the Rodale books most of the early hikers gloried in
the number of rattlesnakes they killed. Most hikers these days don't see
many snakes (small wonder, they all got killed) and those that do no
longer consider it a duty to kill them.  Though there are a few
thruhikers who have eaten snake for dinner, even now.
