I opted for the "cute" ones. I wore a pair of OR
Rocky Mountain Low Gaiters on the trail last summer.
They kept the crud out of my boots and my feet didn't
get too hot. The only drawback was that, around
Pennsylvania, the elastic at the top stretched out (or
I got awfully skinny) so that I had to fold my socks
down over the top of the gaiters to keep them closed.
I started from Springer in mid May. So I didn't have
to worry about snow.
