K--for what it's worth, I have washed my hair with peppermint castile soap in cold water and it's AWFUL.  I like to use the Dr. Bronner's here in Florida in the summer--very refreshing as a liquid bath soap, but as a shampoo.....yuck.  It leaves your hair feeling kind of gummy and yet bristley at the same time.  I would strongly suggest you try it at home before you head off with it as your only shampoo.
