For the most part, I used Traveler's Checks (got them in my mail drops) and 
my credit card.  I carried an ATM card but the fees on most ATM machines is 
exhorbitant (as much as a couple of bucks by the ATM machine's bank, not to 
mention what your own bank might charge for using an out-of-network machine) 
so I chose not to use it.  ATM machines were usually available in all but 
the smallest towns.
