And it *has* been, for quite some time, too!
1) You don't *need* the latest edition; information from OLD books will be unchanged for most throughhikers' uses. This goes for the ALDHA Companion as well as for the Guide. The older books are still very good!
2) Believe it or not, people did throughhike, young and old, northbound and southbound, before the Guides or its forebears came into existence.
