Re: [at-l] Physical Preparation

Chomp —
1) What a great trail name. Should've said that a long time ago.
2) You don't seem to realize that what you describe as "not in the best shape" is a 12 month goal to some, all by itself. If would add only "hill running" to this routine to construct an optimum workout. Sure, I train for marathons now, but 4 years ago I was almost 40 pounds heavier and had NO aerobic reserves. Now, certain listers describe me as having "chicken legs;" I shy away from elevators as a habit, up AND down; and belong to a rather ferocious Ultimate Frisbie league, 'cause "just running" is not quite holistically challenging enough. And I'll likely be *building* trail this weekend, if the snow melts.

(been to both places, and the scenery is
LOTS nicer in one than t'other.)

Just my opinion here, but there is no need to kill yourself . When I started my hike, I was running 20-25 miles a week ( 4-5 miles, 4-5 times ) and going for a long day hike, 12+ miles, once every two weeks.
I wasn't is the best shape, but I was able to start off with 12+ mile days without too much trouble, and it appeared that I was in much less pain that others.
