Wingfoots worst nightmare.....
This report is from the NYT....how much does it weigh?
Technology News and Notes
Radio That Can Travel Into the Wilderness
Motorola's new 6000 series of Talkabout two-way radios are the
SUVs of talk. The series offers all the features of Motorola's
previous two-way radios -- 14 channels on the public Radio Service
band, 38 privacy codes and a range of up to two miles. The new
radios also have a clock with a stopwatch and an alarm, FM stereo
radio, a headset, channel scanning (so that you can quickly find
your partner with the other radio) and channel scrambling (so that
no one can listen in on your conversation).
But extra features take these new two-way phones, priced between
$129 and $179 each, out of the mall and into the wilderness, or
maybe into a bigger mall. The radios also pack a digital compass,
a thermometer and a barometer. There's even an altimeter for treks
through the Himalayas or to the food court.
