Hi BigTate

First off I admit that I havent hiked the AT yet. I'm departing for my
yoyo hike on Feb 7th.
But here's my 2 cents if you want to read it. I think the socks are just
half of the equation. I think you need to view the socks in combo with the
boots/shoes. This is what I did and why I have come to that conclusion. I
bought a pair of Thorlo Trekking socks. Really great socks right. With
those socks on my feet I went boot shopping. I finally found a pair of
boots that felt really great with those socks and I bought em. No prob
everything is great. After hiking around in them for a couple of weeks
they start to chaf the tops of my first 3 toes on my left foot. What I had
to end up doing was buying a thinner pair of socks.
After trying out about 6 different kinds of socks I ended up with a pair of
"Odor Eater Blister Fighters" (very nice socks btw and cost about $3 for 2
pair at Walmart).
Looking back I think the best boot fitting advice I heard was to wear 2
pair of socks while boot shopping. Wish I had. Other than that stay away
from cotton socks stick with all synthetic or wool blends.

YMMV

Mark
