the company I work for, Skytel, sells a small 2-way pager (with or
without keyboard) that allows you to send and receive emails,
wirelessly, directly from the unit.  I'm not sure what the coverage is
like in all areas.    You can see them, pricing plans, and, coverage
maps at www.skytel.com 

We also sell a device that works with the palm pilot.
