Along the same lines, we found that the instant refried beans (Rosas?)
made a great soup if you doubled the water.  Also, Trader Joes (a
western chain) sells a potato/bacon soup that was really rich. We cooked
it about half the recommended time and let it sit and it was really
good. When dehydration is a problem, (not generally a big deal on the
AT, but definitely a problem elsewhere) then a thick soup can be really
good at putting liquid back in the body.
