Excellent response!  I think I'd like to save it for the next time someone
asks me this same question ^_^.  I would add only :  
 
How long are you going to be away from well travelled roads (or
'civilization') at any given part of your trip?  In other words, how long
might you have to depend on the supplies in your kit, if you need to use
them?  (over night in the campground outside of town, 3 days from the
nearest road, 10 minutes from the car, etc)

How many people are you supplying?  Just you, you and your companion, you
and anyone you meet?

Also, go take an advanced first aid class.  The best first aid kit you can
carry is between your ears.
