When I camp in the winter, on flat, powdery snow, I lay down my tarp, and
jump around on it to pack it down. I then use a  freestanding tent, and
don't stake it down. It's not too cold if you use a 4-season tent, and have
a very warm sleeping bag.

On sloped, slippery snow, I use ice screws (like the type used to hang pro
when ice climbing) to stake down the free-standing tent.
